I mean, I don't like CCP tech or public executions of disarmed citizens but saying only 5% is a bit nuts.

Another way to look at it: the native born are twice as likely to be arrested for violent and drug crimes.

https://docs.house.gov/meetings/JU/JU01/20250122/117827/HHRG...

What percentage of illegal immigrants have committed violent crimes?

The stats are pretty clear. Based on DHS own numbers

https://factually.co/fact-checks/politics/number-deported-im...

I'll read it for them.

This basically states that the figures are based on self reported ICE data and are unreliable at best.

The figure is within a rounding error, and regardless does nothing to change the CCP tech and public executions of citizens in the street in broad daylight in front of dozens of cameras.

>facebook only hires smart people

So it is true, they really do only hire insufferable pricks.

Your country can have that. I want my country to have a functional society. I think I know who will win.

You must be living somewhere other than the US. Freedom is a founding principle here. Without it, the US would not be the country it is today.

There’s “freedom to” and “freedom from” and both are very important.

Freedom to raise your children without having them exploited for profit is also freedom.

"Freedom" with a million asterisks.

More freedom than anywhere else in the world.

Love your ignorance. What you call freedom is your freedom to hurt others through your ignorance:

- freedom to be racist against people of color

- freedom to do hitler salutes wherever you want

- freedom to carry a gun to school or to mcdonalds

- freedom to get lead poisoning from your municipal drinking water

- freedom to coal roll your truck next to people

- freedom to have car tires without any profile that can explode any time

- freedom to get bankrupted by uninsured asshat's car crashing into you

- freedom to work at age 80 as a walmart greeter

We have deterrents in place for all of those actions. Freedom means freedom to perform an action, not freedom from it's consequences. What you advocate for is slavery. You may yet get it but it may not look like what you think it should.

I mean common sense reasoning tells me that if OpenAI has decided to turn into an ad business, the actual return expected from investing into compute isn't going to be nearly as great as advertised.

Always has. The US serves Israel first, big tech companies second.

The Democrats could have won if they didn't support Israel unconditionally. Unfortunately when you claim to support human rights but also support what happens in the middle east it creates cognitive dissonance among the population.

Many American pro-Israeli's are more concerned about Iran at the moment than any of the ICE/Greenland news.

It is over.

Edit: they made sure to use the word "trust" 5 times because nothing is more trustworthy than someone telling you how trustworthy they are.

> because nothing is more trustworthy than someone telling you how trustworthy they are.

Reminds me: "we and our 947 partners value your privacy"

You cant trust a company that went from being a non-profit to never-profitable.

it was over when they committed to spending more than they could make back even with growth that outpaced any company ever

It was over when they named the company Open AI

"Trust me, I'm a CEO of a tech company"

"I'm CEO, bitch!"

I don't view this as socialising. It is mostly a battle of narratives.

LLMs are always going to output the median answer you would find on the web. That's why they are almost always mediocre in their response.

This feels like a sus promotion but that aside, when I went on it, it seemed like a bunch of dudes using it as some sort of grindr.

oh yeah, my perception was that it was 75% gay, but, I think the grindr comparison is unfair, I think I've only been propositioned once or twice and no unsolicited dick pics!

PLTR stock peaked at $200 last year and has been going back up so far this year. People are investing in CCP style tech and don't care.

A Palantir rep was supporting one of our exercises late last summer, and he said "Knowing what I know about how the military is going all-in on Maven....I recommend buying Palantir stock."

I picked up a few shares, but I haven't checked if Palantir's growth has been unique or part of a general military-industrial complex melt-up.

Man, back when I was doing Big Consulting (including gov't/defense) I had to affirmatively declare every year to Legal that I wasn't directing any investment purchases or doing anything that could be construed as improper use of nonpublic knowledge. And now Palantir reps just out here pushing insider trading tips like it's nothing, smdh.

Free blood money.

Nah, free blood money was when my General Dynamics shares went from $60->$120, then did a stock split and went from $60-> ~$100. I think that was in....2005? The Stryker (a GD product) was coming into service in Iraq, which drove my purchasing decision. I was an E-4 in Korea at the time and thought I was a defense stock-picking genius.

I had to pull out of US stocks/market completely last year after I felt dirty just having money in a country sliding into authoritarianism. Interesting where different people draw different lines :)

Same. I was actually disappointed to find out my "excluding US" fund had 0.93% exposure to the US. I want it to nil.

They're both free blood money, I won't allow these deflections to go uncontested.
