There's much more to differentiate Rust and Go than support for generics and error handling verbosity. In my mind (and experience) they don't even occupy the same problem space.
I struggle to see what problem space is better for one or the other. I’ve replaced all my web service type stuff with Rust and couldn’t be happier. Also a lot of stuff I used to do in Python is more concise in Rust.
No I hung up my Go boots in 2018, so may be a little out of touch.
Rust integrates a bit better with existing software. Inclusion of Rust in Linux being an example. Go culture tends to value pure Go projects a bit more than Rust's, where Rust wrappers around C libs are more accepted and common.
Go is generally easier from a social point of view, there's not much to learn as it's largely a repeat of what people are familiar with. So introducing it in a workplace is easier as the on ramp is minor.
Ubiquitous greenthreading in Go seems to make the integration piece a bit harder, but the onramp a bit easier.
I was being cheeky. I love Go and have been too busy/lazy to dive into Rust but would like to. Yes, different problem spaces but they often get compared head to head because we need to have stuff to argue over.
It does depend on where in the US you are or how your company handles remote compensation. Bay area, techtropolii, and other high tech areas might pay that but there are large parts of the US where a majority of SWEs make less than $100k. FAANG is a small part of the SWE jobs available in the US.
He's close friends with many on the board, so they back him at every turn. The shareholders can't do anything when the board doesn't care what they have to say.
Well yeah, but I really expected more out of them. They basically wrote a letter saying "please resign", Bob said "no", and then they said "oh okay, we have no further questions or statements at this time". Again, it reads to me like the majority of people are covering it up for financial/social benefit, or just completely disinterested in resolving their issues.
If we ignore that Kotick probably has build himself a very comfortable nest there and is probably surrounded by supporters I believe that even if they wanted him gone there is probably a calculation lying around in the offices of a number of people that compares Koticks exit package vs. the immediate expected losses from the current damage to the brand (which probably ignores longtime effects, or expects things to just blow over).
Christianity exposes a binary: those who are not for me are against me.
CRT theorists propose the same binary: those who are not pro-CRT support racism.
It is possible to be against both racism and CRT.
CRT is not scientific. It is ahistorical, based on storytelling and disagrees with basic fundamental statistics. It is a religion with followers and evangelists, demons and devils. It even has a salvation arc, original sin and the "sins of the father" as concepts. Blood guilt is not science.
Elixir, or rather Phoenix - more specifically, is not good for traditional web apps, in my opinion. You will basically reinvent everything like in the JavaScript world. The functional way of programming looks great at first but there is a reason why it isn't used everywhere, if it is so good :). Feel free to explore though. And make your own opinion.
I've tried it a bit (via https://phoenixforrailsdevelopers.com/), and it seems very cool especially with the realtime features, but I greatly prefer Swift as a language.
> 1) Arc GPUs. Looks like they will be seriously disruptive.
I'm curious to read more about this. Everything I've seen about Intel's new discrete GPUs makes it sound like it'll be more of the same when compared to AMD and nvidia, and potentially not even as powerful.
"Misogyny" means "hatred or mistrust of women". I don't see how this expressed either a hatred or mistrust for women. You are calling this person a horrible thing over a very small issue. I do not find this especially empathic.
I wish people were a bit more careful before slinging these words around, not just because it's overly harsh but also because I consider these to be serious issues, but when used as a cudgel carelessly thrown around it devalues the term, and thus devalues the actual real problems it describes (or rather, once described, as this ship, unfortunately, seems to have already sailed).
There really is some nuance to be had in these things.
A joke about performative third parties is not the same as joking about the class itself. That is why Tropic Thunder is still largely seen as acceptable blackface - because it was only used for the purpose of satirizing the act of blackface, not black people. Likewise, jokes about performative over-reactive wokeness by corporations are not insulting any tangentially mentioned race/sex/gender class.
