Meta has already introduced a dedicated app for exactly this: https://techcrunch.com/2025/09/25/meta-launches-vibes-a-shor...

The testing thing happened like, 10 years ago at this point.

Yeah, Windows 10/11 really suck in terms of quality. New/old Outlook is like a house with random rooms added by people who don’t talk to each other.

I am also in my (late) 30s. I would definitely question myself if I were “constantly the person with the most technical skills in the room”. I of course think I’m smart, but I am rarely surrounded by people that I think I’m smarter than…

I agree work is just a means to an end of not starving, but I like learning and growing enough that if that were the case (most technical among my peers), I would start looking for another opportunity.

Where are you sourcing materials? I was planning my own 11 kWh system with selfsolar.com at $1.50/watt but now think I’m going to buy a pallet of panels from a1solarstore.com at a fifth of the price. Still need to figure out the supports and draft the permit set.

I’m in Denver area and bought panels, rails, and inverter from CED Greentech. They were okay. Apparently they’re having trouble sourcing materials, and have massive demand due to the expiring tax credits. So if you’re thinking of going this route, buy the materials and have them delivered, even before waiting for utility/county permission.

I talked to a local engineer for drafting plans. I didn’t know what I was doing so had to go through 4-5 revisions, which the engineer got frustrated by I think.

This is so cool! Mine is too young but I was planning to hack on something similar when they’re of age. Thanks for the inspiration!

I gotta say. I miss landlines.

I’m on iOS and backup my photos to both iCloud and google photos

I only know a couple people who have since canceled their private policies due to a fear the laws will be amended requiring periodic attestation. I’m still holding my policy, though I am eager to cancel it.

Washington imposed a LTC tax where some percentage of your income is taxed and goes into a fund for LTC. At the time they implemented it, you could opt out by procuring private LTC insurance. Most tech people I know did, because it was cheaper than the tax imposed. We’re still waiting to see if it’s safe to cancel our private policies.

My last three jobs all did pair programming so we structured our interviews to be similar, and they’re still my favorite interviews I’ve conducted. Many candidates also praised the format, whether they were hired or not.

Thanks for the history. I was an undergrad at the time and remember having a choice between 6.001 and 6.01. I don’t think I formally switched into course 6 yet and by the time I did, 6.01 was the only option.
