I’m wondering why most FOSS projects choose Codeberg which is another (although FOSS aligned) centralised forge instead of something like this.

Because Codeberg is a proper non-profit association ("Codeberg e.V.") which makes it more than "just another forge". With that said, I do wish decentralized/distributed forges was used more, git unsurprisingly fits well with it.

Not everyone wants to run their own infra. But at least Forgejo works on the distributed network of projects, so in the future it should be easy to migrate if needed.

Has Forgejo added some sort of decentralised protocol? I missed that if so, that would be a great feature.

Ah, thank you, that's why I couldn't find it on the site.

As a user of the software, I would rather use HTTPS and not install extra applications just to read-only consume software from the internet.

My parents didn’t monitor what I was doing on the internet when I was growing up in 00s. I saw a lot of shit and wasted a lot of money on GPRS and WAP portals. I learned from my mistakes and I’m glad I did. I wouldn’t want to monitor everything my children do either.

If they were happy with using an existing browser engine, they wouldn't be writing one from scratch

I agree, they can write it from scratch and compile to web-assembly. That way they can use Electron for the UI layer. </s> (apparently needed)

I do want C++ to be a safer language, but I don't think inheriting the Rust safety model is the way to go. It is in a way revolutionary but has major downsides like inability to deal with cyclic data structures without clumpsy workarounds.

I don't want to play with a plastic sword, just put it in a sheath.

Glad I still have time to cancel my Pixel 10 preorder. Fuck google

Yes, you can. IIRC both for the assistant/agent and code completions.

I do and deny it access to contacts. Everything works fine.

Nice to hear fuchsia is still being worked on. I was a bit concerned given there were no new changelogs published for half a year.

I was on by default for me, both after the macOS 14 -> 15 upgrade and after installing macOS 15 cleanly. I wonder if they ask for consent in some regions only.

Yeah this seems to be on by default for me as well, I definitely take issue with that.

Nice, I didn't know this! I'll add that I know Nix is also used widely at Discord.
