Do you think Iran is worse than the US when it comes to foreign involvement, world domination, destabilising regions, arming militias, assassinations on foreign soil, ballistic missile programmes, proxy wars, human rights violations such as torture, etc.?
Compared to what the US has done and is doing, Iran looks like a rookie. I despise Iran's rules and the way it police its people. But, the way US gets away with whatever it does, is baffling. Snowden leaks, WikiLeak's diplomatic cables, still its not the hot topic. We can discuss all day about NK & Iran's nuclear programs or China's censorship, but US & its allies should be discussed more as well. Whatever they do impacts us all, directly or indirectly.
US promotes values I am interested in, while Iran promotes what to me seems like a nightmare.
Those who are interested in the Iranian end goal should be supporting Iran, but then I have to wonder why Western people would be promoting the Iranian stance. It does not seem self serving.
US does not promote values, it promotes its influence. USA went against many progressive leaders in latin America because they were about to damage the US influence and economic interest. USA is completely fine with Saudi Arabia and its values, while not fine at all with Allende (or even De Gaulle in France).
What, like overthrowing democratically elected governments, as they did in Iran? I really hope neoconservativism dies with the boomers, but I fear you're young.
I expect this (VERY relevant to the current discussion) proves you wrong. Democratically elected, modern minded minister being "replaced" (he died in the process) by the secret services of the US and UK.
It's not about some "end goal" its about both gov'ts using dirty tricks to further their own goals and the goals of the oligarchs that are associated with them.
My take: both are not worth my promo. US has, as other have pointed out, caused a lot more harm to a lot more people since WW2 then Iran has in the last 250 years.
