As a side note, I find the lane markings in the US confusing. The "gore sections" in Europe are filled with stripes, so there is really no way to mistake them for a lane.


As a driver on both continents, I would respectfully correct you to "are supposed to be filled with stripes". Alas, even as seen here, markings deteriorate - on both sides of the pond.

"Unless the road marking is 105% perfect, it's never the fault of the autopilot, but look, autonomous driving!" is just pure marketing, without any substance to back it.


I think stripes are "typical" in the US too. I can't speak to percentages, but they certainly have them around where I live.
