If the car was already braking, and it hit a soft enough obstacle (in this case, the roof of the truck), the G force may not have been enough to trigger them, which would be correct behavior.


Which is incredibly surprising given the damage in the picture, but always possible I suppose.


Possible, the first images of the wrecked vehicle seemed severe enough to warrant airbags.


Thankfully, airbags do not deploy based on what us internet commentators deem "seems severe", but, instead, based on data from accelerometers.
