Why would stackoverflow ever change their tune on this? They can't. Once they've given an answer way back in 2012, it remains their only answer and if you are using more updated methods, then if you go to stackoverflow, you'd best hope the wisdom of 2012 is still applicable and relevant.

They allow answers that do this. Recently flagged one non-answer that was more like extended commentary on whether the asker really needed to do what they asked about. Moderator saw it, marked the flag as helpful but said they generally allow "frame challenges" like that.
