Ask HN: Could you help me find a not-so-old HN top story?

Some time in the past 60 days, I stumbled upon a top HN article which gave pieces of advice when you join a new company, which is currently my case. I thought I saved that article like hundreds before, but a few days later and after a couple hours of search in my bookmarks manager, my history and through HN Algolia search, I can't find it anymore.

I can't say much about the article for I haven't read most of it. The title was not very explicit (no "career" keyword in it), but I know that the author mentioned "the first 100 days" in the introduction as a cliché not to follow.

Does anybody have any idea of what the article I am describing is?

I have no idea where I could ask for help except for here, so if there is any more appropriate place I'll comply.

Thank you

Try this: https://hn.algolia.com/?dateRange=all&page=0&prefix=true&que...

There are several that match your description on the first few pages of results.

If you change the query to "100 days" then you get more, but "90" fit your description better.

Thank you for your answer, unfortunately the HN search does not index the content of the article, and the "first 100 days" bit is in the article.

I've had that same problem before -- yeah, the title doesn't have the keywords and searching comments and browsing history doesn't help, so I know the frustration. Often when I have trouble finding a link and finally find it later, it turns out that I had an associated issue where I remembered the wrong keywords or was fixated on a slightly different idea. Sometimes it helped to ask myself why I wanted to find this article in the first place, do google searches for what I thought I was looking for, see alternative wording or related ideas, then doing a HN site search with the new keywords.

Yes. I have had this problem several times. HN search is fairly useless in my experience. I don't even try it anymore. As an experiment, take a couple of keywords from an article today and wait a couple of days and try searching for that article again.

To solve this, they could index article content for search. It probably has a too high cost over benefit.

Just tried a Google search with the site:news.ycombinator.com parameter and limited results to ones from the last year, no luck. Maybe this approach with another search engine and/or better keywords could work?

Try looking at https://news.ycombinator.com/front (it's the past link in the heading)

I didn't know that link, thank you. I went 2 months back and sniped visited links for each day, no luck.
