Powerful insight! You are correct. I think the Open Web is in grave danger because in the future majority of the new data, information and content will be generated inside walled gardens like Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Snapchat, WhatsApp, Reddit, Discord, LinkedIn, YouTube, TikTok etc. But I'm glad Google is at least trying to pierce into some of those but at what success and quality is questionable and yet to be seen. Btw these walled gardens are the real "Deep Web" and not some illegal and shady things that people think.
P.S.
>in the future majority of the new data, information and content will be generated inside walled gardens like Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Snapchat, WhatsApp, Reddit, Discord, LinkedIn, YouTube, TikTok etc.
this says more about the decline of Google than anything else - first half of every page return is ads, and the rest is hit or miss in terms of relevance. Ads + SEO has ruined search, people Google now for cross referencing rather than discovery
If you find the quality of ddg results lacking, I know I did, they are basically just a bing wrapper after all, then give Kagi a shot. It's a subscription service search engine, but in my opinion it's more than worth the cost, especially for programming queries
Not sure what content people would be searching for on tiktok and IG... any theories?
YouTube has product reviews, educational videos, instructional, recreational content, news, vlogs.
Reddit has human comments and (sadly) replaced message boards. If I want feedback from an actual human Reddit is usually the place I search.
