As I hope many of you have already done, I spoke out to my local representatives against this anti-privacy bill and got the following response:

---

Thank you for taking the time to contact me about S. 1207, the Eliminating Abusive and Rampant Neglect of Interactive Technologies (EARN IT) Act of 2023, legislation I am proud to support. I appreciate hearing from you.

Keeping our children safe online must be a top priority. Children should not have to live in a society where horrors like abuse and neglect, or human and sex trafficking take place. Those who commit crimes against children should be punished to the fullest extent of the law. Victims of these crimes should be supported by just and meaningful legislation to protect them from future abuse and violence.

On May 4, 2023, the Senate Judiciary Committee held a markup on the EARN IT Act and unanimously voted to pass the legislation out of committee. As a co-sponsor of the bill, I was proud to vote for it in committee, and I look forward to seeing the EARN IT Act brought before the full Senate for a final vote.

[...more self-promotion...]

How can we get these members of congress to understand what they are about to do to the internet?

From personal experience, district offices are extremely understaffed and under-resourced, fertile ground for constituent comms automation.

Phone calls will at least get you on an inter-office tally which may be shared with the representative.
