Ask HN: Co-Founder? Seeking Co-Founder?

This is the monthly "Co-Founder? Seeking Co-Founder?" post.

It would be great if whoishiring takes this over.

Example:

SEEKING CO-FOUNDER | FinTech | CEO/Sales | US/EU/Worldwide | Pre-Seed

A great idea in the taxation niche, MVP ready to go. Ideally someone with local connections to SMEs.

As these haven't been working, I think it's probably time to give up on the attempt to create a new monthly thread around this—can I ask you to stop posting them?

There are a couple reasons why I'm not inclined to support this one even though your intention is obviously good: one is that similar threads in the past haven't done very well—I think that there just isn't a high-enough concentration on HN of people looking for cofounders for a thread like this to effectively match them. It will either get ignored, or drowned in noise, or become repetitive, even from month to month.

The other reason is that YC already has a site for cofounder matching: https://www.ycombinator.com/cofounder-matching, and this problem is probably more on the YC side of the yard.

Hi dang,

Thanks for your feedback on this. While it's true that the monthly threads haven't received a high level of activity, in absolute numbers they've made a significant impact. Thus far these threads have helped 44 founders in their search for co-founders. That's 44 potential startups that could make a meaningful impact.

We've had some previous talks about having these threads less frequently, perhaps that could be a good compromise?

I believe that these threads align well with the spirit of HackerNews, which is all about promoting innovation and entrepreneurship.

I saw your comment on a "What are you working on" thread, maybe you could try the suggestion you made on that thread for this one?

I think it's less likely to succeed. There are lot more HN users working on something than there are looking for cofounders.

I'm potentially looking for a CEO for a legal tech startup; I gave this a go about a year ago with a friend with me in the CEO position, and we didn't get very far. I think I'd be a better CTO, and I'd like to build a different version that tries to solve the same set of problems, but which leverages LLMs.

My email: samier_saeed@protonmail.com

Seems interesting, what's the startup about?

Fundamentally, kind of a GitHub for lawyers, at the core of which is a collaborative document editor that provides features for lawyers similar to those that SWEs take for granted in their IDEs. But it's really the platform play that gives it a lot of potential.

Ah, I see now, thanks!
