I agree with you but isn't that what sharing moderation tools with the US is supposed to mitigate?
It stinks of red herring. The threat isn't the content. It's the hardware the app can control.
As of late we're seeing Chinese nationals uploading recorded Zoom meetings to YouTube, so I suspect USG knows TikTok is another vector for exfiltration or surveillance (RAT for camera/mic).
