That's my experience with the site a decade ago. I remember seeing really tasteful and well done sexy photography, but the amount of very terrible cartoon porn was overwhelming, weird fetishes aside. They all have the characteristic look of drawing by beginners with no taste whatsoever, like overuse of gradients, uncanny faces, colored hair or facial piercings. I don't know how to explain, but if you have spent 5 minutes on that site, you have certainly seen what terrible cartoon porn drawn by horny teenagers looks like.
I watch porn but my observation is that most hentai is barely/badly disguised child porn / pedophilia.
This is something that put me off in some mastodon servers there are a lot of people posting not hentai but drawings of underage looking girls either in creepy sexual postures or with exagerated female attributes (chest sizes or waist to ass ratio).
I don't think you understand where he's coming from, DA literally became filled with My Little Pony porn. I'm as open minded as can be but, that's too much, I also left for the same reasons.

Some fringe content is downright disgusting and so far away from art that some people should put their pencils down and go to therapy.
Wanting to avoid pornographic content on platforms which do not cater exclusively to porn is a valid goal, but often that is just a checkbox away.
Something can be both disgusting and artistic at the same time (plenty of lauded examples of modern art by established artists can be quite disgusting), and dismissing erotic content as unartistic just because it is erotic content seems silly.
