"Your server has a weak GPU so you want to use the GPU from your gaming machine" would be my usecase for this, but it seems overly complicated, having to setup a shared filesystem. I have a VPS on OVH which uses ffmpeg to convert mp3 files from 320kbps to 128kbps, it runs at 32x real speed on the server, but it could run 100x faster on my desktop pc. If there was an easy way to let the VPS "run" ffmpeg from my machine, that'd be great.

Use Tailscale (or really just WireGuard) to connect the server to your desktop, run it using this tool or ssh?

what is stopping you from taking the ovh-vps out of the equation?
