I'm really looking forward to the point where we can put 3d glasses on a person and give them a simulated reality that is indistinguishable from reality, but composed entirely of ML-driven identities. We can already make photorealistic images on computers, produce convincing text, video, and audio, complex behavior, goal-seeking, etc, and one major trend in ML is combining all of those into models that could, in principle, run realtime inference.

I don't worry about philosophical zombies, dualism, quantum conciousness, or anything like that. I just want to get to the point past the uncanny valley- call it the spooky jungle- that cannot be distinguished from reality.
